The charming Sörmland nature is up close in this cycling package starting from Vilsta Sporthotell just outside Eskilstuna. The secret is that you cycle through the lush landscape on an old railway embankment toward the small town of Ärla. Easy to cycle as there are almost no uphill slopes. Continue to Malmköping’s camping where there is an opportunity to take a dip.
Malmköping has a long history and is beautifully located in the heart of Sörmland. Here you can have a cup of coffee with a pastry or perhaps visit the exotic iron museum. It boasts about 2000 old irons, and in wintertime, something as exclusive as iron curling is arranged. Near Malmköping, there is also the Fairytale Path where the young ones can discover our folk tales and meet the animals on the farm. Those interested in history can visit centrally located Malmahed where the Södermanland regiment trained on drills from the late 1700s until 1921.
You can choose to stay in the hostel or rent your own cabin, which you select when booking.
Day 1 - From Vilsta to Malmköping round trip
The starting point for the cycling package is Vilsta Sporthotell where you will spend the night. Either bring your own bike or rent on-site. When you are ready to depart, aim for the converted railway embankment. Cycling on the embankment to Ärla is easy and family-friendly.
On the countryside road to Stålboga, it’s important to be typically cautious about traffic when cycling. Before the junction with road 55, turn right and cycle on the old railway track. Here the surface consists of gravel and sand. After Grinda farm, carefully cross road 55 and cycle the last stretch to Malmköping’s camping. There are opportunities to eat, have a coffee, or take a swim. Then it’s back to Vilsta where you eat dinner and spend the night.
Day 2 - Time to depart
After a good night’s sleep with dreams of folk tales and irons, it’s time to have a hearty breakfast at Vilsta Sporthotell before it’s time for departure.
Perhaps you choose to extend your stay and stay an extra night? In the area, there is Eskilstuna River with outdoor swimming and fishing. Vilstaskogen has large walking areas with jogging trails, illuminated tracks, and a ski slope.
