The deer park has been grazing land belonging to Gripsholm Royal Manor since the 17th century.
In the 1860s, King Charles XV established the deer park as a combined walking park and animal park.
Around 1890, it became a deer enclosure.
Today, the entire reserve is used as grazing land for about 100 fallow deer. The area is a popular walking area both for local residents and the large number of visitors to Gripsholm Castle.
