Våffelbruket AB is founded with the simple idea of delivering the world’s most fun waffle experience with the largest range of waffles together with toppings.
Around 1550, Sweden’s first crown ironworks were founded, right on the same spot where Våffelbruket 470 years later would establish its first waffle factory. A thrilling thought, that the iron mined in the area was forged in the works under conditions we today have difficulty even imagining still remains. With our love for the iron, which has nourished these areas through centuries, and with iron in our genes, it is with pride and humility that we choose to spread joy, love, and experiences with waffles baked in iron.
The waffle has been known through history since the 9th century and has its origins in Greece. Back then, the waffle was called obelius. It was picked up early in present-day Belgium under the name “moule à oublie.” The first documented recipe reads “Beat some eggs in a bowl, season with salt and add wine. Throw in some flour and mix. Then fill one iron at a time with as much batter as a slice of cheese is large. Then close the iron and bake.”
Since then, much has happened with the waffle, today there are thousands of different variants of waffles and the waffle is eaten in all corners of the world.
