Since 2017, on Långberget in the middle of Strängnäs stands an 11-meter high and 66 meters above Lake Mälaren’s water, an observation tower named The King’s Tower. The name derives from King Gustaf V and the Queen who traveled in a landau up the mountain on July 10, 1910, and inscribed their names on a stone slab there. The tower is built on an old water tank from 1898 that supplied Strängnäs with water until 1956.
From Travel Center you walk up the hill to The King’s Tower on Långberget 66 m. above sea level. Apart from the wonderful view over Sörmland, you can grill, bring a picnic basket and sit at tables and benches.
At the viewpoint, there is a sign with a photo over Strängnäs that, with 18 arrows, explains what you see over Strängnäs. In the Tower, there are 3 signs describing the Strängnäs area between 5,000 and 25,000 years ago.
At the very top, on the 3rd floor, there is a sign showing Strängnäs to the south. A 7-meter long ramp is available for the disabled, strollers, etc.
