Strängnäs Windmill

The windmill on Kvarnkullen was built in 1855 and is of Dutch model.

The first mill built here in the 1630s was operated by Olov Kvarnmästare. Over the years, several mills have been demolished and new ones have been constructed at the same site.

The current one has a fixed millhouse with a rotatable roof cap. The power was transferred via a drive shaft, the heartstock, to four millstones. The machinery is almost exclusively built of wood.

The six sails, which were covered with canvas, have a sweep diameter of 21.5 m, providing a circumference of 67.5 m at the blade tips. The mill is in such good condition that it could still be operational today. The mill was sold to the town of Strängnäs in 1918.
